The fourth edition of the "Prova que Sabes" contest by Turma da Blue concluded successfully last Saturday at Cine Tivoli in Luanda. In an exciting afternoon, the duo from Colégio Mandumbo emerged victorious in Angola's largest school competition dedicated to the Portuguese language. The event is an initiative by Blue, a soft drink brand from Refriango, and has attracted over 3,000 participating students since its inaugural edition in 2022.
Luanda, June 2, 2025 – Sávia Francisco and Gracieth de Oliveira, both 11th-grade students from Colégio Mandumbo, distinguished themselves last Saturday by showcasing exceptional mastery of the Portuguese language, securing first place in the 4th "Prova que Sabes" Turma da Blue competition. Each student received a scholarship worth 1 million kwanzas, along with a computer, a tablet, a merchandising kit, trophies, winner certificates, and a gift basket containing Blue and Refriango products.
Sávia Francisco expressed gratitude for the support from teachers and family, acknowledging its significance throughout the competition stages. She highlighted her consistent strong performance in Portuguese as a crucial factor in her confident approach to the finals. Gracieth de Oliveira described the experience as challenging, mentioning sleepless nights but emphasizing that the effort was worthwhile, thanks to the encouragement from teachers and classmates in the audience.
This year's "Prova que Sabes" gathered a total of 3,050 high school students with grade averages above 13, organized into 16 pairs registered via social media and 98 pairs from 12 Luanda schools (five public, five private, and two via social media). Participating schools included Instituto Médio de Saúde IMS, Liceu João Beiral, Colégio Mundo Novo, Instituto Politécnico Privado do Sequele IPPS, Complexo Escolar Aurora Internacional, Complexo Escolar 3049, Colégio Primazia, Colégio Luz da Sabedoria, Colégio Mandumbo, Colégio Yuraryana, and Instituto Médio de Saúde de Luanda ITSL.
The finalist pairs were determined after pre-selection rounds and elimination phases conducted both in person and digitally. David Moisés, Non-Alcoholic Beverage Category Manager at Refriango, noted that this edition was undeniably the largest and best ever, demonstrating genuine participant engagement, school enthusiasm, and the project's growing maturity as a significant platform for social transformation.
Moisés added, "Blue has always believed in the power of knowledge and youth as drivers of a more prepared, creative, and fair country. This year is particularly meaningful as we celebrate the brand's 20th anniversary, marking a new milestone with the project's deeper appreciation by students, teachers, and school communities, who are now more engaged, aware, and motivated to learn joyfully."
"Reaching 20 years with a beloved, relevant brand that directly impacts thousands of Angolan youth is both a source of pride and responsibility. Turma da Blue reflects our belief that learning can be enthusiastic, education should inspire, and Angola's future is built with real opportunities, solid values, and forward-thinking," he stated.
Tânia Jardim, Marketing Director at Refriango, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that "it's deeply inspiring to witness how Turma da Blue transcends the scope of a simple contest. It not only promotes Portuguese language proficiency but also opens real doors for students' personal and professional development. It mobilizes society around the fundamental belief that education is the cornerstone of our collective future."
"Combating illiteracy and promoting literacy are national objectives that should involve everyone, including socially responsible companies. Refriango and Blue are committed to this mission through Turma da Blue and various initiatives nationwide, addressing education, health, and environmental sustainability, contributing to Angola's social, human, and economic development," she added.
In addition to the competition, this weekend's "Prova que Sabes" was a celebration of youth, featuring performances by musicians Edgar, Mozane, José São Tomé, Zay One, Raymada, Roscaz, and A Noção do Kuduro, hosted by Josemara Mateus and Elvisson Daniel—both popular faces associated with Blue and role models for young followers. Josemara created the "Dicas de Português" segment, inspiring the competition, while Elvisson Daniel is a presenter and influencer for Blue.
Now in its fourth year, "Prova que Sabes" has become one of Angola's most significant extracurricular educational projects, promoting Portuguese language knowledge and academic excellence through an engaging and dynamic approach.
